Introduction

The Centre for Total Building Performance (CTBP) is a joint research centre of the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA) and the National University of Singapore (NUS). It is hosted by the Department of Building, School of Design and Environment.

CTBP focuses on Building Performance research with particular reference to tropical building design, construction, maintenance and management. It aims to underpin the R&D needs of the construction industry as envisioned by the BCA. At the same time, the CTBP aims to engage in relevant cutting edge research with other national and international institutions and centres to deliver world class research valued by academic institutions.

Total Building Performance (TBP) addresses a set of coordinated strategies aimed at bringing about a performance and quality driven construction industry. It examines and develops processes contributing to the delivery of integrated and high performance buildings with respect to needs and resource availability. It is about the embedding of best practices and approaches from design to construction, and to the management stages of a building life cycle. TBP is applicable to all building types.
